What Happened to Jalen Brunson? Injury Scare Haunts Knicks After Shocking Incident With Raptors Fan
Is Jalen Brunson all right?
That question would pass through fans’ minds at the Scotiabank Arena as the Knicks-Raptors game is underway. The New York-based franchise had probably gone through the early stage of the matchup in an improved mood. After all, despite being listed as ‘Questionable’, they had Karl-Anthony Towns back and had taken a praiseworthy lead in the 1 quarter. The last thing that would have hampered their progress in the 4 quarter, as they remained neck to neck, was an injury. Even if they didn’t wish for it, they still got it.
As the Knicks-Raptors game progressed, a camera captured Jalen Brunson backing up to the courtside seats. However, as he later ran across the court, spectators suddenly saw him grab his leg! It was unclear when we saw it happening live. However, a zoomed-in video reference revealed the Knicks player sustained an ailment after coming into contact with a fan. Meanwhile, Brunson returned to the locker room with an apparent ankle injury.

Fortunately, any Knicks fans watching the game back home didn’t have to hold their breath for long. Jalen Brunson soon came from the locker room and returned to the bench. Since there was no bandage, it was clear his injury was not serious. As 5 minutes remained in the game, Brunson returned to the court and up to 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 11 assists. Home-court advantage could not save the Toronto Raptors, and they lost the game by a 108-113 score.
Over the years, Jalen Brunson’s legs have become quite injury-prone. It was only back in March when he sustained a left knee contusion. Two months later, a right foot injury followed Brunson’s recovery from the ailment right before the Knicks were set to go up against the Indiana Pacers. According to various reports, a Raptors fan allegedly tripped the player during a recent game. As of now, it is unclear whether the fan intended the move or not. Despite this, knowing the player’s previous experiences with his legs, all it would have taken was a sudden jerk for him to develop discomfort.
It was beneficial for the New York Knicks that Jalen Brunson did not stay away from the court for long. Furthermore, despite the injury scare, the team would be glad that their star player’s availability won’t be under question in the future. After all, they have already had enough scares in this season only.
What other injuries did Jalen Brunson develop this season?
Barely two months into the regular season, Jalen Brunson had developed two separate ailments before his recent ankle injury scare. In mid-November, the 28-year-old point guard turned his ankle during the 3 quarter of a matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers.
The incident occurred as Brunson attempted to drive around Caleb Martin’s defense. Despite the latter not reportedly making contact with the ankle, the Knicks player still went down. As a result, he had to go to the locker room. However, similar to the recent game, it didn’t take long for him to come out. By adding 4 points, Brunson assisted in the Knicks’ 11-0 points run that followed the incident.

It was only a few days ago Brunson sustained a lower back contusion. As a result, he was placed as ‘Questionable’ on the Injury Report for the Knicks-Pistons game. Fortunately, the player’s condition wasn’t bad enough to keep him benched, and he played the game from start to finish.
The ongoing NBA season has seen more injuries pop up amongst players of different teams than before. Fortunately, having played in all 24 of his team’s 24 games, Jalen Brunson has remained one of their most consistent players of the season. Given the recent injury scare, however, it remains to see how long the 28-year-old player can continue maintaining that streak.
