Who Is Kevin Knox? All You Need To Know About Warriors’ Latest Signing With Knicks Roots

Kevin Knox, a former lottery pick and rising basketball talent, is ready to make an impact with the Golden State Warriors at just 25 years old. Known for his scoring ability and versatility, Knox has faced challenges throughout his career. Still, he now looks to seize this new opportunity and compete for a spot on the Warriors’ roster ahead of the upcoming season.

NBA insider Shams Charania has announced his official on his X account, saying,“Free agent F Kevin Knox has agreed to a one-year deal with the Golden State Warriors, sources tell @TheAthletic. The six-year NBA veteran averaged 7.2 points in 18 minutes a game for the Pistons last season, and now will compete in Warriors training camp”.

By adding Knox to their roster, the Warriors brought him in to compete for a spot during training camp. His signing a one-year deal with the Warriors has generated excitement among fans. His ability to compete for a roster spot represents a fresh start, and the Warriors see potential in his skill set.

High School Career

Born August 11, 1999, Kevin Devon Knox II attended Tampa Catholic High School in Florida. He excelled as a junior, by averaging 30.1 points and 11.2 rebounds and 11.2 rebounds per game. He led the Crusaders to regional championships and a runner-up finish in the Florida Class 4A semifinals. As a senior, he averaged 28.5 points and 11.3 rebounds, contributing to a 25-6 record, and showcased his talent in the McDonald’s All-American Game and Jordan Brand Classic.

By showcasing his talent, in the summer of 2016, in the Nike EYBL circuit, he played for the E1T1 United AAU team, scoring a career-high 28 points in one game.  In G League it represents the Rip City Remix. As a senior, he averaged 28.5 points and 11.3 rebounds, earning spots in the McDonald’s All-American Game and Jordan Brand Classic.

College Career

In 2017, Knox was one of the top players and was regarded as a five-star recruit. On May 6, 2017, he chose the University of Kentucky instead of Florida State, Missouri, Duke, and North Carolina. His commitment was a significant addition to Kentucky’s roster, setting the stage for his collegiate success.

Knox led the Wildcats, during his freshman season at Kentucky, to an impressive 10–8 conference record, averaging 15.9 points per game and earning All-Rookie and First-Team All-SEC honors. His role was crucial in the Wildcats as he helped his team win the SEC tournament, contributing 18 points and 7 rebounds in the final. Knox was declared for the NBA draft after his freshman year, forgoing the remaining eligibility to pursue a professional career.

Professional Career

After his impressive college career, Knox was selected as the ninth overall pick by the New York Knicks in 2018. He marked his NBA debut on October 17, 2018, against the Atlanta Hawks, where he scored 10 points. Against the Milwaukee Bucks on December 1, 2018, he recorded a career-high 26 points. In January 2019, he recorded his second career-high match scoring 31 points. Which led him to win the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month.

Despite a strong rookie season, in his sophomore season, his performance began to decline. He averaged only 6.4 points in 17.9 minutes per game. His game continued to diminish over the years, which led the Knicks to trade him to the Atlanta Hawks in 2022 in exchange for Cam Reddish. And ever since he has bounced around the league, searching for a consistent role. 

Atlanta Hawks (2022)

For the Hawks, he debuted on January 19, against the Minnesota Timberwolves scoring only two points. His time with the Hawks was limited, but he contributed valuable minutes during their playoff run, scoring a playoff career-high 12 points in a loss to the Miami Heat. After having a brief stint with the Hawks, he then signed with the Detroit Pistons in August 2022. 

Detroit Pistons (2022–2023)

Debut against the Orlando Magic, on October 19, he scored three points and three rebounds in a 113-109 win. In Pistons, he scored a season-high 21 points. Knox had three rebounds and a career-high six 3-pointers, in a 125-116 win against the Utah Jazz. Pistons traded his to the Portland Trail Blazers, on February 9, 2023. 

Portland Trail Blazers (2023)

He marked his Trail Blazers debut on February 13, recording four points and two rebounds in a 127–115 win over the Los Angeles Lakers. He scored a season-high 30 points, along with 11 rebounds, in a 136-125 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, on April 8, 2023.  

The Trail Blazers re-signed him on October 2, 2023, but was waived on October 21, before the start of the 2023–24 season. Nine days later, he joined the Rip City Remix, but never played for them.

Return to Detroit Pistons (2023–2024)

He re-signed with the Pistons, on November 8, 2023. Knox scored a season-high 19 points with 7 rebounds in a 112-110 loss against the Houston Rockets.

But again he was traded, this time to the Utah Jazz, in exchange for Simone Fantecchio. However, he was waived shortly after. His journey continued as he returned to the Rip City Remix, a G League team, seeking to regain his footing.

Rip City Remix (2024–present)

His debut for Rip City was against Ontario Clippers, where he earned 26 points and 11 rebounds. His Rip City career-high performance was against Memphis Hustle, where he scored 33 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists. Knox’s recent performances in the NBA Summer League caught the attention of the Warriors, leading to his current signing. His ability to adapt and improve during his time with the Rip City Remix suggests that he is ready for this next chapter.
