Will Saquon Barkley play against the New York Giants? Latest injury update on the Philadelphia Eagles star player | NFL News – Times of India
Saquon Barkley, the rushing champion of the NFL and running back for Philadelphia Eagles, speaks out his desire to break the legendary single-season record that Eric Dickerson made in Week 18. Following his team’s victory against the Dallas Cowboys, Barkley has now collected a total of 2005 rushing yards from 345 attempts but still falls short of 101 yards distance from Dickerson’s record of 2105, which was set in 1984. This very edge in this chase kept fans wondering if he would get a last chance to enter history books.
Will Saquon Barkley play against the New York Giants?
In one word No. Saquon Barkley will not be taking part in the final regular season match against Giants in week 18. “We’re gonna rest some guys,” coach Nick Sirianni announced in a news conference on Wednesday. “He’ll probably be somebody that rests.”
“It’s a very special record that’s been standing for a very long time by a great player,” Sirianni said, via team transcript. “It’s a team record that everybody is involved in, so you weigh in all those things.
“But at the end of the day, you just try to do what’s best for the team. Again, when the bye was, how guys are feeling, the bumps and bruises we can take care of. We’ve put ourselves in a position to be able to be in this situation. And our goals are to have success and to play good the next game we play. Not only New York, but whoever we play after that. We think this plays into that.
“It’s not easy. It wasn’t the easiest decision to go through, but we have great people in this building and had a lot of input from a lot of different people, players included.”
Barkley is the league leader in rushing yards with 2,005 in 16 games, over 200 more than the Baltimore Ravens’ Derrick Henry. It’s the most in Barkley’s career and he’s only the ninth RB in history to hit the 2,000 mark.
Saquon Barkley’s comment on head coach’s decision
Barkley’s fans might know want to get such news from coach but the player knows what the team needs. “[Sirianni] asked me if I wanted to play, if I wanted to go for it,” Barkley said Wednesday, via ESPN. “I said, ‘On Sunday, I probably didn’t care too much for it. When I slept on it, it was an opportunity to implant my name in football history and I may never get an opportunity like that again. So, I’m down. But at the end of the day, I don’t care for putting the team at risk.’
“He’s the head coach for a reason. He makes those decisions and whatever decision he wanted to make, I let him know if you let me play, I’m going to go out there and make sure I get it. And if I don’t, I am OK with that, too.”

In Week 7, Saquon Barkley wowed the audience with a 176-yard run and a touchdown along with just 17 attempts on the field against the Giants, prompting inquiries by Eagles’ coach Sirianni towards him about setting an all-time high as far as yards gained is concerned, crossing 189 yards. Barkley was not interested. He later bettered it to 255 yards in Week 12 in an extraordinary game. But when it was time to score for the Giants once again, he chose to consider the Eagles’ playoff push before himself.
