‘World’s largest’ rubber duck visits New York: Here’s where to see it

NEW YORK, N.Y. —A massive duck is waddling into New York.

And when I say massive, I mean massive.

Social media sensation Mama is a 61-foot-tall inflatable rubber duck that traverses the globe with her son, Timmy, in tow — and for the next couple of weekends, the mother-son duo will be in New York.

After hanging out off the coast of Splish Splash Water Park in Calverton, Long Island, this weekend, the pair is set to waddle up to Playland in Rye, New York, from Aug. 16 to 18, as reported by Thrillist.

According to Thrillist, “She [Mama] is the ‘world’s largest rubber duck,’” and “weighs more than 30,000 pounds when you include her traveling base, holds 133,000 cubic feet of air, and is wider and longer than she is tall.”

Timmy is quite tiny compared to his mom, coming in at about 10% of her massive size, Thrillist noted.

But that’s not all — like any proper rubber duck, Mama can come ashore to greet the masses.

Her journeys have inspired a variety of merchandise on her official website, including duckie earrings, assorted hats, plenty of T-shirts, and even rubber and plush replicas of Mama. “Big Duck Energy” appears to be a popular slogan.

Her website coyly states, “The world is her bathtub,” and it appears that the waters off New York are no exception.

This round of stops began in California on July 4, and will conclude on Oct. 5 in Georgia.
