Yankees fan grabs Mookie Betts’ glove trying to pry ball loose in World Series

As Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts tried to catch a foul ball in the first inning of Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday, two New York Yankees fans tried to rip the ball out of his glove.

The bizarre “only in New York” moment took place when Gleyber Torres led off the bottom of the first inning with a pop fly to right field at Yankee Stadium.

After Betts nabbed the ball, a Yankees fan in an away Aaron Judge jersey wouldn’t let go of Betts’ left hand until he pried it loose.

The effort was all for nothing as the umpire ruled Torres out from fan interference and stadium security escorted the two men out.

“The fans were escorted out of Yankee Stadium following the incident and ejected,” a team spokesperson said in a statement.

It was the second time this series Torres has been on the wrong end of a fan interference call. In the ninth inning of Game 1, he hit what appeared to be the go-ahead home run in Los Angeles, but a Dodgers fan reached over the wall, and it was ruled a double, instead.
