York tennis downs Hastings

YORK – The York boys were back in action on their home courts Tuesday, as the Dukes welcomed the Hastings Tigers to town for a tennis dual.

York senior Eli Nething fires up a serve during a match at lead doubles against Hastings on Tuesday evening. Nething and Collin Kotschwar were winners by a 6-2, 6-0 margin over their Tigers foes.

The matchup was played in a format identical to the one that will be deployed at the state tournament – best-of-three sets of six games – with three doubles and two singles matches in action.

York brought home the win in four of the five matches to get the dual victory in their penultimate action of the regular season.

“We played well overall and took care of business which was important. We are really trying to stay focused on what is in front of us and not look too far ahead to the state tournament next week,” head coach Matt Fike said. “We did a good job of that today and we will need to do that again Thursday against Crete.”

It was a clean sweep of the doubles matches for the Dukes, as the lead pairing of Collin Kotschwar and Eli Nething rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Moses Rhoades and Prestyn Long, while the No. 2 duo of Peter Dallmann and Danny Burgess were victorious by a 6-1, 6-0 margin over Brody Mackay and Daniel Pelma.
