You want to watch Brooklyn Nets AND New York Knicks?! There’s an app for that!!

Say you don’t subscribe to cable TV but you want to watch the Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks plus the New York Rangers, the New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils and even the Buffalo Sabres this fall, then the New York Yankees next spring.

Well, the Gotham Sports App’s streaming service is for you.

On Wednesday, MSG and the YES Network’ joint venture, Gotham Advanced Media and Entertainment — GAME — announced a new app that will house MSG+ and the YES App services in one place on your digital screens, becoming the exclusive regional TV Everywhere and direct-to-consumer streaming home of each programming service. In all, the new app will offer live digital streaming of six of the area’s seven MLB, NBA and NHL teams. The one team left out: the New York Mets, whose games are on SNY which does not have a streaming service option. NFL teams are also not included.

“With the increased fragmentation of outlets carrying fan favorite sports programming, the Gotham Sports App allows fans of our teams one easy access point for New York area sporting events from MSG Networks and the YES Network,” MSG Networks president and CEO Andrea Greenberg said in a news release announcing the service.

For most, it appears, the service won’t mean much if any change. The programming is free to those who already subscribe to the channels through traditional cable and satellite packages. Same if you already subscribe to the YES App and MSG+. Both will be discontinued and replaced by Gotham Sports App starting with the 2024-25 NBA and NHL season coverage. The YES App will continue to be available for streaming the Yankees and other YES Network content through the remainder of the 2024 season.

Those without cable can buy the Gotham App package that includes the MSG+ and YES apps for $359.99 per year or $41.99 per month. That’s cheaper than the combined costs of the two networks’ current app offerings when purchased individually. YES currently costs $239.99 annually or $24.99 monthly while MSG+ currently costs $279.99 per year or $29.99 per month. (Other than streaming services, MSG is currently unavailable in large swathes of New Jersey and Connecticut because of a carriage dispute with Xfinity.)

“The new Gotham Sports App will deploy GAME’s best-in-class technology to deliver a greatly enhanced fan experience, showcasing the best in New York sports all in one place,” YES Network CEO Jon Litner said in the release. “The app, which will be free to our distributors’ authenticated customers, will provide one convenient digital destination for our programming services and for fans of some of the most iconic teams in all of sports.”
