Zendaya’s Tour de Fashion Reaches New Heights in Different Takes on Tennis Whites
During the rollout of Dune: Part Two, stylist Law Roach aptly characterized Zendaya’s press tour wardrobe in an interview with Bazaar as “method dressing.” The guiding tenets of the approach are what led the star to wear a glitchy motherboard skirt suit, a cyborg suit of armor, and a Matrix-esque black leather set. Roach and Zendaya have likewise applied the same principles to her wardrobe for the actor’s new film, tennis dramedy Challengers.
Over the past month, Zendaya has embraced tennis-core on and off the red carpet as a means to promote the sexy sports film, which comes out tomorrow, Friday, April 26. This has manifested as a slew of extremely on-the-nose outfits, like a Loewe dress imprinted with the silhouette of a tennis player in motion, or a neon-green Celia Kritharioti gown fastened by a literal tennis ball.
But the fashion duo is also capable of pulling off more subtle homages. Just take a look at Zendaya’s most recent New York City ensembles, which breathed new life into the idea of Wimbledon whites.
On Wednesday, she started her morning in an athletic uniform from Longchamp, composed of a black quarter-zip sweater with an elastic cropped hemline and a pleated white miniskirt. Both the top and bottoms featured a long green stripe running around them.
She tied the look off with a few more simple pieces, like a pair of white sneakers and a canvas tote bag.
Later in the day, the actor was spotted in a white monochromatic outfit: a sleeveless collared blouse tucked into a pair of billowing wide-leg pants with huge leg slits at the sides. She coordinated the look with white sneakers, as well as a white gold necklace from Bulgari.
For a guest appearance Wednesday on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Zendaya changed into yet another all-white look—this time, a strappy halter tank top that draped into a pair of pleated wide-leg pants. She topped it off with ivory platform heels and a stack of silver bangles.
Finally, she ended the night in a sleek white hooded dress, custom-made by Alaïa. To cap it off, she added her signature white pointed-toe pumps and a stack of silver bracelets on each wrist.
